Do I need a Partner?

Written by Jennifer Campos

No Partner is needed to join our group class. We rotate partners so that everyone has a chance to dance with someone throughout the class. However, If you join a class with a partner and would like to stay with them, that’s ok too. Just let the instructor know ahead of time so that they keep that in mind when its time to rotate.

How do the group Salsa classes work?

Written by Jennifer Campos

Beginner classes are taught in four-week sessions. What this means is that the day you start, is the first day of your session. Within those four weeks you will learn four important fundamental foot works. After you have learned those four, you may ask the instructor to test you and you know them well, they will graduate you to the intermediate level where you will learn a new fundamental each week. Fundamentals are for both the men and women.

How long will it take me to learn?

Every student learns at his or her own pace. But in reality, it depends on how often you come to the classes and how often you practice. The more you practice, the faster you will learn. Private lessons help incredibly in how fast you learn as well. To pass into the Intermediate class students must learn four fundamental foot works. One fundamental is taught per class, so general students take about a month (four weeks, once a week) to pass into the intermediate class.

I already have experience, do I have to start from the beginning?

Although not requirement, we highly recommend everyone to take at least one of the beginner level classes. Even though you may have previous dance experience you may or may not be familiar with our particular style of salsa ( New York Style or Mambo) and/or you may not be used to our terminology. This may get confusing once you get into the intermediate class and thus slowing down your progress. That is why we recommend taking a few of the beginners classes until you get comfortable.

Is it better to learn in a group environment or in private lessons?

Both are beneficial to learning quickly. Students who take private lessons definitely learn at a faster pace in a shorter time. Group classes are great not only to meet other student dancers at your level, but also to test your skills in a “safe” environment. We suggest taking both until you feel comfortable with our teaching method or simply to practice. They are both very useful in the learning process.

We offer group Salsa classes in Boca Raton and In Miami Lakes. Our style of salsa is called "New York Style Salsa" or "On2" or "Mambo". It’s a very romantic, smooth type of salsa with the emphasis on the 2 beat of the music.

Private lessons are customized and in your private class you not only can learn salsa but also, Merengue, Bachata, Cha-Cha-Cha, or have a fitness class in Dance Aerobics.

What kind of clothing and shoes do I have to wear?

Print
PDF
Written by Jennifer Campos

For the first few classes, we recommend wearing very comfortable shoes with backs on the heel. For example, shoes with leather or hard soles are great to start classes with. No sneakers, for the rubber tends to stick to the floor and no sandals to avoid injury.† Once class attendance becomes frequent, we recommend purchasing some dance shoes. You can begin with dance sneakers or slippers. Sneakers may be purchased at our Boca Location or you can order fancier ones at www.toe2toe.com. Dance shoes can be costly, but your feet will thank you once you feel how comfortable they are how much longer you can dance in them.
